GERMI commissions 200 kW rooftop solar project in Ranchi
[ezcol_1half]Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) has completed a 200-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power project with micro-grid concept at Ranchi in Jharkhand.
The grid-connected rooftop solar power project, jointly designed by GERMI and the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), was set up on the CMPDI building in Ranchi on October 9, according to an official statement.
The commissioning of the project comes in the backdrop of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s thrust for solar power systems.
At the inauguration of the unit in Ranchi, S K Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India, appreciated the hard work of GERMI and CMPDI employees and added, “Coal India has signed an MoU with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for installation of 1,000 megawatt (MW) solar power system.”
Started as a pilot project in September 2013, the project was completed within one year, the statement said.
GERMI is the technical specialist for this pilot project.
Prof T Harinarayana, Director, GERMI-Gandhinagar, maintained that the institute has been a pioneer in implementing various solar rooftop projects in Gujarat. “It has managed a 5 MW of solar rooftop in Gandhinagar city and is going ahead with 5 more cities. Vadodara city rooftop programme has been initiated and is in progress.”
GERMI has the experience of more than 60MW of solar PV power projects and is currently working with various state and central government agencies to spread solar energy across the country.
