Solar power scheme for farmers scrapped: Punjab to HC
The Punjab government on Thursday told Punjab and Haryana high court that it had scrapped solar power scheme for farmers.Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) counsel made oral submissions before the bench of acting chief justice, SJ Vazifdar seeking more time to file written submissions.
The high court was hearing a petition filed by five successful bidders for the 2015 scheme. The petitioners had alleged that despite being successful in the bids in January, they had not been issued allotment letters by PEDA.
The court was told the scheme was launched to help farmers. As many as 380 farmers applied for the scheme. Of them, 281 were declared successful bidders. The farmers had invested around Rs 2.5 lakh each for the scheme, the court was told. The government is sitting on the scheme, resulting in hardship for farmers, the petitioners said. The hearing has been adjourned for April 21.
