Representatives of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have offered to arrange a solar traffic signalling system in Guntur city.BEL representative Narasimha Rao on Wednesday explained to the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner S Nagalakshmi the functioning of the system with the help of a Powerpoint presentation. He told her that the system would work on both electricity and battery systems.The automatic signalling system will allow free passage of Ambulances and VIP vehicles through the special green corridors to be arranged at the signal point. The GMC Commissioner sought a Detailed Project Report (DPR) from BEL and asked the officials of the civic body and the police to extend cooperation to the BEL in preparing the DPR.High resolution CC cameras with sophisticated features like photo-capturing the numbers of the vehicles are being installed in the city to help in identifying traffic violators. The city has about 7 lakh vehicles and the number is likely to rise further once the capital city works pick up speed. Guntur Traffic DSP K Srinivasulu said, 60,000 new vehicles are being registered every year in Guntur alone adding to the congestion.
