Airports Across India to Have Solar Power Plants
Eyeing to generate one lakh MW solar power in the country, Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to establish solar power plants at all airports. As a part of the programme, already 12-mw solar power plant was established at Cochin International Airport and the entire airport is operated on solar power at present.With the successful achievement, the ministry decided to establish solar power plants at all the airports in the country. Speaking at a programme on Sunday, Civil Aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju said that already a 5-mw solar power plant was set up at New Delhi airportStressing the need to tap solar power, the minister said that solar power plants would also be established at Sri Varahalakshmi Nrusimha Swami temple at Simhachalam and the MVGR Engineering College at Vizianagaram. The MANSAS (Maharajah Alak Narayan Society of Arts and Science led by Vizianagaram Maharaja’s family) Trust would take up both the projects, he said. The Vizianagaram, Bobbili and Rajam municipalities in the district have also decided to establish solar power plants to reduce their power bills, Ashok Gajapathi Raju said.
