Small scale industries urged to go green, use solar power

The small scale industries in Coimbatore were on Thursday urged to generate solar power to reduce fuel-based power consumption and also carbon dioxide emissions.”There are nearly 50,000 small scale units in Coimbatore. And, if 1% of these units install solar power panels on a yearly basis we can bring down the consumption of fuel and reduce the impact of carbon dioxide emissions in the environment,” said director to new and renewable energy ministry, R P Goswami.He was in the city to attend the workshop on Concentrating Solar Thermal Technologies for Industries that was organised jointly by the ministry of new and renewable energy and Coimbatore chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Thursday.National project manager of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) Anil Misra said there was a lack of awareness about the benefits of solar power.
