KVS to launch solar PV system pilot project in NCR schools
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) today decided to launch a pilot project to generate clean electricity through Roof Top Solar Photovoltaic System in its schools in the NCR and the North East region.
According to a statement released here, a detailed survey of KVS schools located in the NCR has already been conducted for installation of roof-top solar PV power system.
KVS commissioner Santosh Kumar Mall said that the KVS schools posses a huge roof-top area with a nationwide potential of 120 MW and the Solar PV projects will be a big step towards clean and green energy.
The government has set a target of 1,00,000 MW of solar power generation by 2022 out of which 40,000 MW is proposed from grid connected roof-top solar PV plants.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is implementing a programme called ‘Grid Connected Rooftop and Small Solar Power Plants Programme’. KVS has already shared data of 677 KVs with MNRE for assessing roof-top solar PV potential, the statement added.
