Robots to clean Solar Panels without water!!Is it really in today’s market !
Solar cells may be pushing the limits of efficiency, but they can only work optimally if they are kept clean. Norwegian engineers have developed a cleaning robot that allows solar panels to deliver at full capacity. Solar energy farms and arrays can consist of hundreds of square meters of solar panels, which must be cleaned as quickly and effectively as possible, without the use of water. Researchers from SINTEF and Hungarian company ProDSP Technology collaborated to create the energy-efficient cleaning robot which cleans the solar cells with as little as possible wear and tear or environmental impact. “Cleaning is part of standard operational procedures at our solar energy farms, where equipment is cleaned at least once or twice a year on order to avoid soiling. This involves the removal of everything from sand to bird droppings,” Sissener explained. But cleaning frequency is location-dependent. If a farm is located in a desert environment, the panels will require more frequent cleaning because the solar cells become covered with soil and sand.
Though water based cleaning is most effective cleaning method, in dry places like the desert where water is not available and the soiling in the surface of the panel is only due to dust accumulation, it is effective to use water-less cleaning technology. In waterless cleaning technology, a brush typically dust repellent is rotated or moves along the surface of the panel to swipe the dust away. This method is efficient in dry places specially. The robots cleaning without the use of water is less complicated as it does not store water and doesn’t need to pump high-velocity water into the panel and the robots are consequently of lightweight. Solar Brush is an example of a robotic cleaning system for SPV panels without the usage of water.
Key features of Robotic Cleaning without water:
- Clean dirt & hard dirts without use of water.
- Low Operational Cost.
- Restricted to particular Module Configuration.
- Applicable for large Scale as well as small Scale of Solar Plants with scarce of water.
- Leads to conserve both energy & water.
